I-495 Express Lanes Expands

The 495 Express Lanes Extension opened on November 22, expanding the current Lanes by 2.5 miles in the Tysons-McLean region and adding new connection points at the Dulles Toll Road and George Washington Memorial Parkway.

When traveling on or near the Beltway in northern Virginia, drivers should stay alert for new traffic patterns, slow down, and travel with extra caution.

Drivers are encouraged to keep these tips in mind:

• Expect new traffic patterns on the 495 Express Lanes and the adjacent general purpose lanes, as well as the Dulles Toll Road and the George Washington Memorial Parkway interchanges near I-495, as everyone adjusts to the Extension’s new entry and exit points.
• Never stop or pull over on any highway unless it is an emergency. To access the shoulder on the Extension in an emergency, move to the left.
• Drivers who inadvertently get on to the Extension should continue their trip until they can safely exit and contact the operator of the 495 Express Lanes at 855-495-9777 or CustomerCare@ExpressLanes.com.
