The Next Generation

New roads

Tolling starts Feb 9 on Dominion Boulevard (US 17)

The Dominion Boulevard Improvement Project replaced a 2-lane roadway and deficient, two-lane drawbridge originally built in 1964, with two parallel, two-lane fixed span high rise bridges that also contain a 10 ft. wide, separated pedestrian crossing. The US 17 highway in Chesapeake, Virginia, which is part of the National Highway System, was also widened from two to four lanes through a nearly 4 mile stretch, including three new interchanges at major access points. A fully automated toll collection system was installed, including state-of-the-art open road tolling technology.
